Day 11

Last night the intruder, Insomnia, visits again. Luckily my old pal, Sleep, gets rid of this gate-crasher half way through the night.

Meditation with Oprah&Deepak: Hope in Uncertain Times.

Spanish class with Duolingo

News: Oprah donates $10m to coronavirus relief. There is hope that Italy and Spain are past their peak. Sweden is told to brace for thousands of coronavirus deaths. In the UK the Queen addresses the nation, whilst PM Boris is wheeled off to hospital.

D&I catch up with our families:

D’s parents in Spain : coping well into 4th week of lockdown. Local ice rink now being used as a mortuary. 😳

Mum in Sussex: lots of gardening and enjoying the sunshine. 🌱

Dad in Surrey: lots of gardening and enjoying the sunshine. 🌱

My brother Simon & his wife Ali : In the garden, donning BBQ apron, an impressive beard, glass of rosé in hand, all is rosy in Hampshire isolation. 🌹

With my familial green-fingered tendencies revitalized, I tend to my own tropical garden. D&I admire our baby bean shoots.   I ask him to remind me what type of beans they are. “They came from a 13-bean mix,” D says, “It’s a lucky dip.” “So, we are growing lucky beans” I say. Let’s hope so. 🤞

I am being heavily persuaded to buy a fitness app that A says she really, really wants, for routines, for recipes, for meal plans. But the version she wants is not free, and for the price, I’d hope it would cook the meals too. I suggest she follows the free version first. For lunch, she eats pizza. Later, she bakes 12 fudge brownies, and eats 4. Then she swims 3 lengths of the pool to prove to me that her new health kick is going really, really well.

2pm: CIG briefing: 4 new cases, total 39. Fishing is now permitted as ‘exercise’.

We are told to #stayhomecayman, but I’m not good at doing nothing. I sign up for a MasterClass on Advertising and Creativity. I have barely seen the teens all day. I check in, to see if they mind. “No, it’s been the best day ever”.

5.30 pm – It’s Me-Time. This takes the form of Girl’s Happy Hour, in the hot tub, with chilled glass of Pinot noir. The sunset is spectacular. 🌅 One girl is a doctor on the front line. She is simply awesome. Those of us less medical discuss this new feeling of “pointlessness” and gulp on our wine guiltily.

7pm – We clap on the dock for #caymanstrong with a dramatic red sky backdrop.

7.30pm – Dressed for dinner, A proudly announces she will now wear clean PJs every day, all day. “A hygienic decision” I commend. “Thanks,” she says ”but I’ll only change my underwear every 2 days…. To save on laundry”.

Thanks for joining the journey!
