Revisiting Monet’s Water Lilies at the Orangerie

Revisiting Monet’s Water Lilies at the Orangerie took me back to the first time I saw them at 16, when I was struck by his bold shift from Impressionism, his near-rebellion into abstraction. It felt like a powerful, final gift from a master, unconcerned with convention, offering his work purely as an experience for his nation.

Today, I find myself drawn in by a different quality - the meditative, emotional stillness that envelops you. Monet invites us to become part of his world, to float with the lily pads, to glimpse ourselves in the reflections. What did he want us to feel? Perhaps it’s that each time we view it, it’s an entirely new journey, depending on where we are in that moment.

Today I enjoyed the true wonderment of visiting the Impressionists at the Musée d’Orsay. 🎨 Being surrounded by the collection of French masterpieces was beyond inspiring. Seeing the works of Monet, Manet, Degas, Sisley, Seurat, Cezanne, Renoir, Van Gogh (to name a few) up close reminded me of the power of color, light, and brushstrokes to tell a story. Truly a magical experience in the heart of Paris! ✨

Being just a few floors beneath the Mona Lisa feels out of this world, and it’s such a privilege to showcase my work at the same time as the extraordinary talents at Art Basel Paris. With the city alive with creativity and inspiration, this is a huge step in my journey as an artist. It’s unlikely to sell with this level of competition around, but that’s not why I’m here. The energy was palpable, with so many of Cayman’s talented artists present. It’s an honor to be hung in the same room as many of my heroes. Every artwork found a new home, and the event was a massive success! "Sprats at Dusk" merges the natural world with artistic expression.

Now this framed original artwork currently hung in the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands could soon be yours!

It goes up for auction at the Big Art Auction, with proceeds towards the National Gallery. Will sit comfortably in any coastal home - swipe to see it hung in a beach house.

BAA auction is on October 10th. All artwork for auction is on exhibition now and open to the public from September 9th.

Artist statement:

"Sprats at Dusk": This framed diptych, with two stretched canvas panels, captures the beauty of the Caribbean using acrylics in turquoise, blue, white sea foam, and gold leaf, enhanced with Caribbean sea water and sand from Seven Mile Beach. The piece portrays soothing seas and sprightly silvery fish, their movement illuminated by the fading light of dusk. The vivid colors and rich textures transport viewers to a tranquil, dreamlike shoreline in paradise.
